About
This site
This site is really a set of files that are stored on a computer's hard drive somewhere. These files can be viewed if the correct document requests are made to the server. The server then goes and has a mooch around in some directory before passing the files back down the Interpipes to the computer that asked to see them in the first place. If they don't exist then it'll say something like "I can't find them!".
Maybe if I can be bothered I'll consider moving some content into a database of sorts so that the pages can be built up by a computer program thing before being sent down the Intertubes - how cool and exciting would that be eh? Apparently that's called "server side processing" because some of the hard work happens on the server. This would allow me, for example, to open an Internet shop and sell people cheap tat in exchange for credit card numbers. But apparently there are rules about that so keep your cards in your wallets and I shall keep my tat to myself.
Home Cinema
For the past couple of years I've been gathering the bits and pieces I need for a home cinema system. I thought I'd tell you about it because there's not a lot else to talk about on here. So far I have acquired a pair of Tannoy speakers that are stood on some rather hefty stands, a B&W centre speaker and a Gale subwoofer. These are all hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V670 AV receiver. It's only analogue and everything's connected using the standard red and white RCA cables but it does the job. I also have a pair of Sony bookshelf speakers to hook up but I'm waiting until I get a new amp.
My TV is a Panasonic 42" Plasma with a 400Hz sub-field drive. The picture quality is superb and it's a pleasure to watch. I hope to purchase a Blue Ray player soon and have one in mind. I'm also planning splashing out on a new AV receiver but that will have to wait until there are a few more pennies in the piggybank.
I might even post a couple of pictures of it all up on here.
